slide slow of CRAKK 2009:
So, over an Australia Day long weekend, why do 190 rodders from far and wide come to the CRAKK? Is it to walk around and check out the many cool rides? Is it the laid back atmosphere that has been carefully cultured over the years? Is it the facilities that rank with the best that any rod run has seen? Is it knowing that while the kidz are out playing at the pool or on one of the many kidz attractions that you know they are being looked after and are safe? It’s all of the above and more. It’s the family atmosphere, the hospitality and the dedication shown by all members of the Canberra Hot Rod Association (CHRA) who want rodders to have a good time!! Friday 23rd of January saw the first of 190 entrants roll up from far and wide for what was to be another ‘hot’ CRAKK run. Close to 40 degree heat saw the swimming pool at the Capital Country Holiday Village cop another flogging by rodders of all ages. Later that evening the CHRA opened a trailer full of liquid refreshments, and before long it was the hub of the evening. Tall stories were being told that only got longer and taller several hours later. For those who had heard those stories before Karaoke was the place to be. Many rodders had raspy voices the following morning but that could be attributed to liquid refreshments and or singing. All too soon the heat of the Saturday morning arrived. A great bacon and egg breakfast was put on for all. By 9.30 most entrants had lined up ready for the short drive to the ‘Skid Pan’. Arriving at the skid pan a hand full of drivers were given a safety brief and directions on how the event will be run. Most of the rodders wanted to hang back and see what was to take place. FUN, FUN, FUN and more FUN that’s what was on order!! By the end of the day almost every rod had been out on the skid pan (at least twice each) for 5 laps of wet and wild mayhem. The order of the day was to go as hard as you can as quick as you can and see if you can keep your ride on the track. As each and every driver came off the pan only one thing stood out: ‘The smiles on their faces’!! Yep the Hot in Hot Rodding had been brought back! There was wine tasting back at the park and Aquatic Golf for those who thought they knew how to handle a golf club. Kroozin the park was also the go, with give-aways being thrown to the Kroozers. The Kidz Disco was on after dinner, and then the big kidz band, the Atomic High Tones, took to the stage to provide an end to a great day. On the Sunday, entrants lined up for the ‘Cruise De Kanberra’ observation run to ‘Questacon’ where the Show ‘n’ Shine took pride of place. The vast expanse of green lawns was a great venue with plenty of opportunity for passers-by to admire the rods. The venue in front of Old Parliament House made a great back drop for the Show ‘n’ Shine with hundreds of people from all walks of life admiring the cars. Back to the Park for the Push Bike Show ‘n’ Shine, more Aquatic Golf, Cruzin the park and swimming. It was, of course, still stinking hot! After dinner, the first presentations got underway and, at great expense to the CHRA, a very low and fast fly past of four FA18’s added a bit extra to the presentations to celebrate Australia Day. CHRA is now officially broke! Hard to top a fly-past but several rodders tried by participating in a joke night. Some very sick rodders attend the CRAKK run! Monday (Australia Day) after another great breakfast, presentations of the major awards was held followed by hot-dogs and farewells. By the look of it, not much happened at the CRAKK run again!!
